Marco Hirnstein, member of the Bergen fMRI Group, has been awarded a so called Bergen Forskningsstiftelse (BFS) stipend for 5 years, after which the stipend is converted to a tenured professorship at the University of Bergen. The BFS stipends are awarded to outstanding young researchers and are considered among the most prestigious awards in Norway. The Bergen fMRI Group congratulates Marco Hirnstein!

Members from the Bergen fMRI Group visited prof. Iris Sommer and her research group at the Utrecht University Medical center, Netherlands, to discuss research collaboration on auditory hallucinations between our two groups. Professor Iris Sommer is among the leading researchers in the world on auditory hallucinations, and we are especially happy to establish research collaboration between Norway and Netherlands on this important research topic.

Josef Bless, member of the Bergen fMRI Group, successfully defended his PhD thesis on October 15.

"The smartphone as a research tool in psychology: Assessment of language lateralization and training of auditory attention"

Acting as Faculty Opponents were Prof. Christine Mohr, University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and Prof. Heikki Hämäläinen, University of Turku, Finland. Prof. Robert Murison, University of Bergen, Norway, was acting as coordinator of the committee.


Helene Hjelmervik, member of the Bergen fMRI Group, successfully defended her PhD thesis for the doctoral degree on Friday September 18. 2015.

“Sex and sex-hormonal effects on brain organization of fronto-parietal networks”

Acting as Faculty Opponents were Dr. Alan Beaton, Aberystwyth University, and Dr. Patricia Cowell, University of Sheffield, with Dr. Lin Sørensen, University of Bergen, as coordinator.
